PROJECT _03
BIOMORPHIC PAVILLION
The pavilion was created by following the task of creating a geometric structure using a repetitive shape. The shape of this geometry takes inspiration from nature through the pattern of a pangolin’s armor. Layered on top of each other, the pangolin’s scales create an arch-like structure from head to tail. This biomorphic pavilion is assembled by slot connections between the “scales” or panels of the structure. Each slot connection is angled and chamfered to achieved an arcuated shape from this modular geometric pattern. The pavilions shape is tapered at one side to give a secondary curvature to the structure as a whole. Each panel would be constructed of molded plastic that could be prefabricated for easy assembly on site. The structural shape of this pavilion is just one interpretation of the form, theoretically, an infinite number of forms could be created with this structural system.
